India created history by defeating top seeds 2025-squash world cup Hong Kong China in the final to win the Squash World Cup 2025 title. The final was held at Express Avenue Mall in Chennai on Sunday. This victory marked India’s first-ever Squash World Cup win, improving on their earlier best result of a bronze medal in 2023.
The Indian team, seeded second in the tournament, had an outstanding run and did not lose a single match on their way to the title. In the group stage, India comfortably defeated Switzerland and Brazil with identical 4-0 wins. They continued their strong performance by beating South Africa in the quarter-finals and two-time champions Egypt 3-0 in the semi-finals to reach the final of the mixed-team event.
In the final, experienced player Joshna Chinappa gave India a strong start in the women’s singles match. Ranked 79th in the world, she surprised higher-ranked Lee Ka Yi, who is world No. 37, with a 3-1 victory. Her win set the tone for the team.
Next, Asian Games medallist Abhay Singh, India’s top-ranked men’s player at world No. 29, played a dominant match. He defeated Alex Lau, ranked 42nd, in straight games within just 19 minutes, giving India a 2-0 lead.
The final match saw 17-year-old Anahat Singh step onto the court with confidence. Playing under pressure, she delivered a calm and impressive performance to seal the win and secure a historic title for India.

Young star Anahat Singh sealed the historic win by beating Tomato Ho 3-0. She dominated the match in 16 minutes, winning the games 7-2, 7-2, and 7-5.
Velavan Senthilkumar was also part of the Indian squad, while Henry Leung represented Hong Kong China.
